Alicia Escobio Alonso is Curator of Public Programmes of MACBA. Her work in the cultural field has focused on the world of contemporary art, and in particular on public programmes. Over the last decade, she has worked in this field at institutions like the CCCB (Barcelona Centre for Contemporary Culture) and at MACBA, mainly on projects ranging from mediation and coordination of research groups to commissioning exhibitions. She studied philosophy, specialising in aesthetics and contemporary art theory, a background which has supported her investigations of contemporary discourse both within and beyond the institution

As an independent commissioner she has developed a large part of her practice as a member of various collectives, taking part in the production of exhibitions, dialogues and publications. She was a member of Leland Palmer together with Laura Benítez and Lola Lasurt until 2016; and she is currently a member of the International collective continent as well as Vista Oral alongside Maite Muñoz, with whom she directed and managed the gallery space 56x45x25 in Los Angeles, hosting artists such as Fermin Jiménez, Landa, Antoni Hervàs, Hailey Loman, Enric Farrés Duran, Marria Pratts and Christopher Richmond.
