An exhibition of women artists in the MACBA Collection joins AWARE: Archives of Women Artists, Research and Exhibitions. Created ten years ago by Camille Morineau, an art historian, expert in the history of women artists and former curator at the Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris, AWARE is a major digital archive of women artists from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries all over the world. With the aim of classifying artists and making their work known, Morineau explains that she created the archive ‘to re-write art history from a more gender-equal perspective’. Playing with the concept of ‘awareness’ and the association’s acronym, AWARE offers the complete profile of the artists plus a sample of their work, together with interviews, articles, research, exhibitions and bibliography, as well as meetings announcements, awards and symposiums. Gradually becoming a digital reference hub, MACBA joins it with a first exhibition of artists from the Collection: Dara Birnbaum, Eulàlia Grau, María Teresa Hincapié, Teresa Lanceta, Mabel Palacín, Tere Recarens and Eulàlia Valldosera. You will find them in AWARE soon. Let's make it 8 March every day.
