The serie of Joan Rabascall Paisatge Costa Brava is a detailed examination, using photographs he took himself, of the landscapes he visited during his youth, now soiled with waste, full of the kitsch souvenirs of mass tourism, natural places destroyed by the shortcomings of urban planning and the construction of the A-7 motorway, with the consequent destruction of the natural landscape of the Empordà. The word “landscape” written in calligraphic italics and in six languages, probably the same languages spoken by the tourists visiting the Costa Brava, continues to be a “golden” brand on a landscape that had received the imprint of the masses and had lost its “aura”. A vision that denounced the misuse of the landscape by the public and private powers in favour of the mass exploitation of banality.
