Dime, dime querido, 1986
Three large volumes made with Corten steel plates make up this sculptural installation, whose maquette is part of the MACBA Collection. Although the artist, Susana Solano, had conceived the work in 1986 – her first work designed to occupy a public space –, it could not be executed until 1992, when the Barcelona City Council commissioned a series of public sculptures to mark the Olympic Games being held in the city. The work, whose title refers to a personal experience of the artist, is located in the Olympic area of Vall d'Hebron, on Avinguda Martí i Codolar. Dime, dime querido succinctly captures the sculptural language used by Solano in the eighties.
Made of iron, the maquette plays on the multiplicity of perspectives that the artist wanted to impart to the work. As usual in her sculptures from this time, we find a closed and at the same time open construction, with right angles contrasted with modulations, unevenness and imbalances, asymmetries and a pronounced organic effect. Despite its apparent austerity and sobriety, it is a work that combines great movement and constant changes.
