El Lissitzky. Beyond the Abstraction Cabinet
This exhibition co-organised by MACBA and the Sprengel Museum in Hanover focused on the period between 1930 and 1941, when El Lissitzky produced his least-studied and most controversial body of work including multimedia, photography, photomontage, collage, graphic and exhibition design. The catalogue looks at El Lissitzky’s collaboration with German and Soviet photographers and with several filmmakers. It includes some of the works displayed as well as a timeline and bibliography of the artist, some of his correspondence with Western colleagues and with his wife Sophie Kueppers, and archival photographs.
