Concerts program
As part of the LEM 2009 14th Experimental Music Meeting, three international names are being presented at the MACBA Auditorium: the musician/composer Wobbly (United States), the guitarist Jochen Arbeit (Germany) and the quartet Freight Train (Poland). In his conference-concert, Wobbly (Jon Leidecker) will review Ràdio Web MACBA’s “Variations” series on sound appropriation, which he curated. Both Jochen Arbeit and Freight Train will present pieces connected in one way or another with the visual arts and film, culminating in a very special party finale with the Polish quartet offering a “soundtrack” to the animated film Eden by Andrzej Czeczot.

The Industrial Workers of the World was set up in Ohio in 1909 as an international union of industrial workers with innovative forms of workplace democracy and whose members, known as Wobblies, work to promote the right to self-management. Following in the same spirit and taking their name, Wobbly (Jon Leidecker’s artistic name) borrows widely and freely to create collages with the help of Digidesign, creators of Pro Tools. This bright kid from the latest crop of sampling artists weaves his way deftly and passionately through electroacoustics, dance music and urban rhythms. No-holds-barred universal sound. Wobbly is currently producing "Variations", a series on the history of Sampling Music, for Ràdio Web MACBA (http://rwm.macba.cat/)

Jochen Arbeit
Jochen Arbeit is closely linked to the history of Teutonic experimental rock music over recent decades. Guitar player with Einstürzende Neubauten and former member of another mythical band on the 1980s Berlin scene, Die Haut, Arbeit also boasts a solo career which, though not so well known outside Germany, is full of rich ingredients and striking attitudes. Pieces for dance, film and theatre, work with artistic activists such as Bridge on the Wall… His hyperactive production is driven by a punk and dada spirit, with forays into electronica and the elegant finish of a meticulous tailor. He’ll be revealing his many layers at the MACBA to present his solo album Arbeit Solo.

Freight Train
Freight Train is an intuitive and polymorphic project, a work-in-progress set up over twenty years ago as a sound lab where improvisation and new technologies can interact with other fields such as spoken word and film. The current line-up of Marek Choloniewski and Krzysztof Knittel (electronics), Wlodzimierz Kiniorski (sax and percussion) and Piotr Bikont (voice and objects), has flirted with the world of avant-garde silent film and animation with surprising results. At this year’s LEM they give their unique voice to Andrzej Czeczot’s Eden, a unique three-part animated journey through some of the most mythical and atavistic memories in Europe.
