Ignacio Uriarte

Ignacio Uriarte was born and raised in Germany. After studying and taking up a professional career in business management in Germany, Spain and Mexico, in 1998 he began audiovisual arts studies in Guadalajara, Mexico, to focus fully on artistic production. Since 2007, he has lived in Berlin, working on what he calls ‘office art’. Uriarte transforms standard office routines into artistic material. The automatic scribbles made while talking on the phone, the fold of the sheet of paper before putting it in an envelope, the accumulated dust, the coloured cards... serve as the starting point of a work with formal references to the Conceptual and Minimal art of the sixties and seventies. Emphasising formal and chromatic simplicity, Uriarte produces graphics and object-based work that contain few elements and in which both the final result and the production process are of equal importance. His work is often close to craftsmanship and focuses on the repetition of the gesture.
