Las Ácaras is a collective consisting of Gala Gabaldón, Marcos G. Barker and Alvie Gual-Cibeira that focuses on artistic work with young people so that they learn strategies to act not as passive consumers, but as culture producers and active participants in contemporary culture. The collective’s projects emphasize learning through experience and affection, encouraging the exercise of collective criticism, but at the same time recognizing the potential of youth culture in its most playful dimension as a space of resistance.

The collective began with the workshop “FIESTA STARTER PACK”, a project for the Sala d’Art Jove in Barcelona aimed at young people 14-18 years of age. The workshop was held at the MACBA in February 2020. Its aim was to use the area of nightlife to highlight recognition and respect for different social and cultural identities, their intersectionality, and the analysis of the privileges resulting from systematically or structurally favouring certain realities, and thus posing the quest for inclusion and security in the festive context.
