On 1 and 2 December, La Ribot will present Llámame Mariachi as part of the Secció Irregular programme at Mercat de les Flors http://mercatflors.cat/es/espectacle/sesion-1-seccion-irregular-llamame-mariachi/.

As an introduction to the work of this versatile artist, MACBA, in collaboration with Mercat de les Flors, presents Treintaycuatropiècesdistinguées&onestriptease, a documentary by La Ribot (www.laribot.com) that spans a long-term production process beginning in 1991 in Madrid with the striptease !Socorro! ¡Gloria! and ending with the performance of the three series of Distinguished Pieces (1993, 1997, 2000) in successive presentations of Panoramix in London, Geneva and Paris in 2003. Although the goal was the tangible preservation of an ephemeral work, the film was inevitably destined to evolve into something more. Just as the book La Ribot (2004) brought the artist’s creative constants and compositional interests to the printed page, so the film also offers a new projection of her preoccupations in a format that has already captured her interest in other recent works – digital video.
While the Distinguished Pieces were conceived as a project about the body, created through the body, Treintaycuatropiècesdistinguées&onestriptease is principally a work about the gaze. The body ceases to be an object and becomes an excuse on which to fix the gaze, which becomes responsible for the movement. The film is presented as the point of arrival of a journey that began in the theatre, that is, with the observation of a body that was present through action (Distinguished Pieces and Más Distinguidas 1st version), then moved to the gallery and museum, partially reversing the roles of movement and stillness allocated to performer and spectators (Más Distinguidas 2nd version, and Still Distinguished), and concludes with the movement of the gaze itself.

This film screening is a unique opportunity to see the entire series of pieces from the perspective of the ideal spectator.

Introduction by Quim Pujol, performer, critic and curator. Currently co-curator of Secció Irregular, Mercat de les Flors.
