Documentary is/not a name

This film and video programme presents for the first time in the country the complete works of the Vietnamese film-maker Trinh T. Minh-ha. Born in Hanoi (1952), in 1970 she moved to the United States, where she studied musical composition, ethnomusicology and French literature at the University of Illinois. Film-maker, composer, writer, poet, literary critic and teacher, she was one of the outstanding voices of post-colonial and post-feminist discourse in the eighties and nineties. As a film-maker she has won great recognition in the field of the documentary, a format in which she takes a critical ethnographic look which deconstructs the narration of the traditional documentary. She is professor of gender studies, film and rhetoric at the University of California, Berkeley, and her courses focus on the situation of working women in the broad context of the cultural politics of post-colonialism, theory and contemporary art.
