Malaise and illness in the information society is the topic that María Ruido addresses in this visual essay. Based on contemporary thought texts by Mark Fisher, Franco Berardi “Bifo” and Santiago López Petit, and conversations with intellectuals, professionals and users of the mental health system, the artist reflects on mental suffering in capitalist times. Ruido places emphasis on the social condition of chronic sadness, a form of pain that is experienced as a private one, albeit connected with the burden of job insecurity, eternal uncertainty and extreme individualism that we are driven to bear.
