The publication, curated by the Italian curatorial collective Il Colorificio, comprises research on artistic practices and studies dedicated to performativity, sexuality and self-representation, the publication is a narrative theory fiction emerging from diverse contexts: from the Catholic devotional devices of the Calvary (also known as Sacri Monti) to the history of the far-left guerrilla group Brigate Rosse and its attempt to create a revolutionary state through armed struggle.
The presentation wil be enriched by BODY LANGUAGE, a screening programme curated by TOMBOYS DON’T CRY which conducts research on moving images, videos and movies across contemporary and traditional production to map the complexity of queer experience.
Finally, Il Colorificio, Linda Porn Davis and TOMBOYS DON’T CRY will discuss political agency through terrorist porn, clubbing and collective performativity,delving into artistic practices, activist actions and public manifestation.
L’Ano Solare intersects those backgrounds with theoretical reflections on performativity, assuming practices of confession and disorganisation as strategies of self-defence embraced by subaltern bodies. Through postporn and terrorist porn theories and imaginaries, the body learns to redefine itself as an armed prosthesis. Encompassing critical, narrative and theoretical movements, the publication aims to foresee an approach for the constitution of a collective, communal and revolutionary body aware of its historical bone structure and muscular system, its caring and comprehensive connective tissue and its ideological blood.
L’Ano Solare itself is a collective body. The essay by Il Colorificio functions as a skeletal system continuously interrupted and enriched by several contributions that, as muscles, allows the reader to wander around or take action. The artists and researchers taking part in this collective effort are Lorenzo Bernini, Natalia Cabezas, Giulia Crispiani, Caterina De Nicola, Beatrice Favaretto, La Scuola della Fine del Tempo, Giovanna Maina, Jacopo Miliani, Mariacarla Molè, Giorgia Ohanesian Nardin, Linda Porn Davis, Luca Scarlini, Giovanni Testori, Lucia Egaña Rojas, TOMBOYS DON’T CRY and Francesco Tola.
The volume is published by Axis Axis, both in English and Italian. The project is supported by the Italian Council (8th Edition, 2019), program to promote Italian contemporary art in the world by the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Italian Ministry of Culture.
