Ten Notes for a Table Cloth, 1975

Collage, 8 dibuixos 50 x 50 cm c/u

Miralda’s interest in the meaning of food is related to its connection to survival, as well as its place in culture. Bread and pasta salads are classic features in his actions and installations. In 1977, in the context of the exhibition Breadline at the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, he presented Macaroni Landscape, which included the cultural symbolism of colours. Miralda visits traditions and countries in his artistic recipe book, which can be expressed in collective and festive actions as well as by creating recipes, sketches, instructions, drawings and collages. The critic Pierre Restany referred to his Eight Notes for a Table Cloth as a “plate-painting”: “These recipes represent a panoramic compendium of the baroque vision of the Catalan artist, the components of his palette and the traits of his adventure. They are, above all, linguistic references and exercises in style.”
