The World as an Instrument

in progress

Monographic course and concert series lead by Francisco López

For more than fifty years, the "real world" (as opposed to the instrumental universe) has been a prime source for audio creation. Initially, this was a consequence of the technological possibility of recording all manner of sounds, but in a more relevant form it seems to be the result of the idea that recordings are themselves material for generating audio possibilities, be they original, transformed, real, or virtual. The socialization of portable recording devices (since the 1950s) has gone through various stages that have had a determined impact on the idea and concept of audio creation, just as in the popularization of any explorative practice in this "real world" that impacts the masses.

In this program, Francisco López has invited four young and practically unknown audio artists to give concerts and present their work for the first time in Spain. These artists are exceptionally dedicated to their work, which is as polished as it is personal, which explores the real world as a source for creative material. The artists are Yannick Dauby (France), Andrey Kiritchenko (Ucraine), Ronnie Sundin (Sweden), and Aernoudt Jacobs (Belgium). The program includes an intensive class entitled "The World as an Instrument" in which teacher López will focus on historical, sociological, and philosophical aspects that will end with a concert of his "American Trilogy" with pieces from Costa Rica, New York, and Patagonia.
