We Collaborate
We understand contemporary art as a space where attention is drawn to the tensions of today’s world. For this reason we work in networks with associations and organizations of the city offering a space for dialogue and collaboration.
ACCA Awards: Associació Catalana de Crítica d’Art
ACCA Awards: Associació Catalana de Crítica d’Art
As part of the partnership agreement between MACBA and ACCA (Catalan Art Critics’ Association) to foster and preserve art criticism, every year the museum hosts the ACCA Awards, an event that recognises the most outstanding work done over the year in the art world in Catalonia. ACCA, which brings together professionals working in criticism, dissemination, curating, museums, teaching and writing about art, helps to showcase and value the role of criticism as an essential tool in the development and consolidation of the contemporary art scene. The partnership with MACBA reinforces its mission to give support to the sector and make the awards a key meeting place between professionals, institutions and audiences interested in thinking about contemporary art.
Art Nou: Emerging Art Festival of Barcelona and L’Hospitalet
Art Nou: Emerging Art Festival of Barcelona and L’Hospitalet
Since 2024, MACBA has taken part in this emerging art festival through the Professional Fair to present emerging groups and projects, which opens the exhibition season every summer to give a mouthpiece to young artists and projects. This event aims to map the emerging context in the city and provide a space for visibility and dialogue between creatives, galleries and professionals in the sector, in order to help them to carve out a place on the contemporary scene. The partnership with Art Nou is part of MACBA’s commitment to the new generation of artists and to the construction of a more open, plural and sustainable arts ecosystem.
ArtsLibris. International Artist’s Book, Photobook and Self-Publishing Fair
ArtsLibris. International Artist’s Book, Photobook and Self-Publishing Fair
Since 2023, MACBA has cemented its position as the venue for ArtsLibris in Barcelona, held every autumn in the Convent dels Àngels. This partnership is in line with the institution’s long-standing commitment to publishing books and catalogues to accompany, document and complement the exhibitions and activities it organises, and to reinforce its commitment to disseminating and supporting contemporary creativity. During the fair, MACBA takes part in a range of conversations and activities, helping to create a space for discussion of the artist’s books and contemporary publishing, and to situate Barcelona as a key meeting place on the international artist’s book scene.
GAC Awards
GAC Awards
Every year MACBA hosts Gallery Night, the keynote event of the GAC Awards, organised by Galeries d’Art de Catalunya with the aim of recognising and showcasing the work of galleries, artists, curators and professionals in the sector. These awards offer a space for meeting and celebration to reinforce the essential role of galleries within the art ecosystem, at the same time encouraging dialogue between stakeholders in the contemporary art world: artists, critics, institutions and audiences. MACBA’s support for the GAC Awards is in line with the museum’s determination to support the country’s artistic fabric and help to strengthen the networks that enable it to grow and evolve.
Healing Arts Barcelona
Healing Arts Barcelona
MACBA is taking part in Healing Arts Barcelona, an international initiative led by the MNAC that explores the intersection between art, health and collective wellbeing. Within this framework, the museum is collaborating on two projects that connect artistic practice with care and the social dimension of art, such as the closing visit to Carlos Motta’s exhibition, which focuses on the relationship between art and the politics of sexuality, gender and the HIV/AIDS crisis, or its involvement in community projects that foster connections, dialogue and participation from an ecosocial perspective, such as A Vegetable Garden as an Ecosystem of Affection in the Mobile Garden or I had things lying dormant.
IN RESIDENCY. Artists in Secondary Schools
IN RESIDENCY. Artists in Secondary Schools
IN RESIDENCY. Artists in Secondary Schools in Barcelona is a programme of the Institut de Cultura de Barcelona and the Education Consortium of Barcelona, conceived in cooperation with the A Bao A Qu association. The aim is to introduce contemporary art into public secondary schools through the direct and continuous contact between the students and an artist/creator. IN RESIDENCY commissions artists to create a work conceived specifically for the occasion, to be carried out together with a group of secondary school students.
Raval(s) Festival
Raval(s) Festival
We are taking part in the Raval(s) Festival, an annual event organised by the Fundació Tot Raval in collaboration with other neighbourhood associations. The team of MACBA’s Kitchen will join the Soups from Around the World Festival and the Mobile Garden in the construction of a market garden in the neighbourhood.
Out from Reserve
Out from Reserve
Out from Reserve is a temporary hosting programme in public schools for works from the city’s contemporary art collection, created by current artists in Barcelona. Sourced from the municipally owned artwork collection, a large part of the pieces were acquired using the COVID-19 Fund from 2020. The project, which includes the installation and exhibition of the works in secondary and primary schools, recognises these educational centres as exhibition spaces and an extension of the institution-museum itself.
Size doesn’t matter
Size doesn’t matter
The Size doesn’t matter Festival emphasizes the importance of short audiovisual works, believing that greatness does not depend on duration and that ingenuity can be concentrated in a short amount of time. With this philosophy, it presents a selection of 53 diverse short films. This edition, in collaboration with Pere Faura, pays tribute to cinema pioneer Segundo de Chomón, known for his creativity and hand-coloring techniques, inspired, according to legend, by the colors of the flowers on Barcelona’s Rambla.
Sponsor your facilities
Sponsor your facilities
Thanks to the collaboration framework agreement between the institutions of the Barcelona Provincial Council (DIBA), Foment de Ciutat, Fundació Tot Raval, CCCB, MACBA, Maritime Museum of Barcelona (Drassanes), Filmoteca de Catalunya and the Liceu, the foundations of the educational project Sponsor your facilities, which aims to acquaint all students in the Raval with the big cultural facilities in the neighbourhood, were established. In addition, the intention is to develop a long-term shared process that is part of the academic curriculum and for students to achieve learning through their participation in an enriching educational experience.
HOST ACTIVITIES
HOST ACTIVITIES
We network with entities, platforms and other cultural institutions in the neighbourhood and the city in order to encourage participation and debate and generate meeting points for people. To this aim, we offer the Museum spaces to host activities and initiatives, as well as collaborating with community projects and cultural associations.
