John Roberts es profesor de arte y estética en la Universidad de Wolverhampton. Ha escrito varios libros, entre los que cabe destacar The Art of Interruption: Realism, Photography and the Everyday (Manchester University Press, 1998), The Intangibilities of Form: Skill and Deskilling in Art After the Readymade (Verso, 2008) y The Necessity of Errors (Verso, 2011). Además, también ha publicado artículos en las revistas Radical Philosophy, New Left Review, Oxford Art Journal, Historical Materialism, New Literary History, Third Text y Manifesta.
En 2008 el MACBA invitó a John Roberts a dar una conferencia en el seminario "La condición del documento y la utopía fotográfica moderna", que se ha actualizado aquí.
