Visits for schools

Visits for schools at MACBA are an opportunity to forge a shared space for critical reflection on the artwork and its connections with the present day. They are developed with proposals adjusted to each corresponding educational stage and context, and articulated to favour listening, conversation and open narratives, as well as ways of living the museum. Proposals are refined with specific teams of educators, artists and researchers.

Visits are conceived for students in preschool, primary school, lower secondary school, upper secondary school, vocational training programs and university studies.

Schools may choose between guided visits with an educator to specific exhibitions, or an unguided visit to all exhibitions in the museum.

School visits are educational experiences that enable students to:

– explore exhibitions through activities adapted to each educational stage
– develop observation, critical thinking and creativity
– connect the museum’s exhibitions and programmes with the school curriculum

School visits are available in two formats:

– Guided visits with a MACBA educator. An active visit led by our team of museum artists and educators, introducing exhibitions and proposing activities and conversations adapted to the age of each group.

– Self-guided visits. Groups can explore the exhibitions independently and at their own pace during the museum’s regular opening hours.

– Bookings for between 11 and 25 people are considered groups.
– All bookings include up to two free accompanying people or teachers.
– If the group needs more accompanying people, this must be specified at the time of placing the booking.  To ensure the proper organisation of visits for schools: 

– Reservations must be made at least 15 days in advance.
– The booking confirmation will be sent by email and must be presented on the day of the visit.
– If the group exceeds the maximum of 25 students, it will be split to ensure a comfortable and safe visit through the galleries.
