With their usual forcefulness and humour, the Guerrilla Girls illustrate their ‘ten ways of knowing if you’re an art world token’ with ten statements printed over a background depicting something uniquely emblematic of New York: the subway tokens used in the city between 1953 and 2003, which carried the phrase ‘Good for One Fare’. Among the ten messages, the Guerrilla Girls remind us that: at art world openings and parties, the only other people of colour are serving the drinks; everyone knows your race, gender and sexual preference, even when they don’t know your work; a museum that won’t show your work gives you a prominent place in its lecture series.
