Running (POLAROID SELF TIMING), 1968-1970
Both the photographic series and Castoro’s drawings are proof of the artist’s poetic perception of her environment and the conceptual relationship she established with it.
Her studio, where she lived and worked, is very present in these works and creates a direct relationship between the artist’s body and her habitat. Running (POLAROID SELF TIMING) is an example of the crossover between disciplines that existed in her practice and how time and its multiple layers become space. As Castoro wrote in her journals, ‘Do all my problems center around space? At one time – time was my problem. Now, space. I want to carve space. I am carving space.’
