We see educational practices as practices involving creativity and critical research. One of our goals is to experiment with new ways of transferring knowledge, exploring format and strategies to make the knowledge generated within the education department accessible to the general public. This approach allows us to strengthen the basis for reflection and add meaning to practices at the intersection between art and education.

Publishing is the opening number to a line of publications from MACBA’s Education Department inspired by the day-to-day educational practices within contemporary art and museums. This first edition in the Quadern d’educació (Educational Notebook) provides time to think about our experiences, share what we have learnt and to think about publishing as an artistic and pedagogical practice. As such, fanzines, stickers, conceptual maps, picture books and hashtags become gestures that cause us to reflect on the how, why, and to whom education is made public.

Lo estamos haciendo [We’re Doing It]
Publication (in Spanish) Lo estamos haciendo is the publication containing the collective thought process carried out by the Education Departments at IVAM (València), Centre d’Art la Panera (Lleida), Es Baluard Museu (Palma) and MACBA (Barcelona), with the support from the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation and from artist Itxaso Corral about the idea of designing a mobile art unit. It is a notebook that aims to share some useful questions distilled from the intense experience this process of collective thought has involved, with the aim of encouraging others to set up new “thinking together” processes.
ECOS. Com sona un museu? [ECHOES: What Does a Museum Sound Like?]
ECOS. Com sona un museu? [ECHOES: What Does a Museum Sound Like?]
This audiovisual and sound project brings together and traces fragments of What Does a Museum Sound Like?, the activity run by MACBA for children from 3rd nursery to 2nd primary years from 2019 to 2023. This video does not set out to either describe or sum up the activity. Following the tone of What Does a Museum Sound Like?, it aims to make those moments of meeting between the children, the museum and the artistic and educational practice of the artists and educators on the project reverberate in our bodies.
