Eudald Espluga’s essay adds a seventh voice to the contributions made by the speakers, chairs and moderators at the ‘Season of Debates on Education: Education in the Face of Post-truth in the Digital Era’, organised by the Consell d’Educació Municipal de Barcelona, the Consell de la Formació Professional de Barcelona and the Associació de Mestres Rosa Sensat. The three debates were held on 7 and 14 March and 11 April 2024 at the Auditori Meier with the support of the MACBA Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona.
Espluga does not report directly on the proceedings in his essay but instead ponders, based on the reflections in the various talks in the series, on whether it is still possible, in a postnatural, posthuman and postmodern world like ours, to continue to think of the truth in the same way as it is thought of by philosophical and scientific tradition, addressing this issue by problematising some of the approaches and proposals of the speakers. He offers us open reflection on the role that ‘critical thinking’ should play in education and on what new ‘discursive infrastructure’ we need to overcome the impasse in which Espluga believes critical thinking finds itself today.
