Rafael Tous opened the Metrònom gallery in Barcelona with the aim of creating a totally contemporary and experimental art space. Situated initially on Carrer Berlinès, in the city’s Sant Gervasi neighbourhood, and later on Carrer Fusina, next to the Born market, the gallery was active from 1980 to 2006. Glòria Picazo – the first person to work at Metrònom – and Manuel Segade – one of its last members of staff – hold a conversation in this Quadern portàtil about how the various activities and exhibitions held there had a major impact on the evolution of culture during that period and on the construction of the artistic fabric in Barcelona, not only in the realm of the visual arts but also in the performing arts, music and comics.
