Simplicity is the main aesthetic element in the work of Joan Hernández Pijuan, an artist who approaches space in an almost essentialist manner, removing all ornamentation in order to embody the close emotional links between the gaze and the landscape. The MACBA retrospective offered an overview of four decades of work of this Catalan artist, from his early gestural pieces to spaces divided symmetrically or without limits and neutral objects influenced by conceptual art. The catalogue includes articles by Arthur C. Danto, Dan Cameron and Valentín Roma and a conversation between María de Corral and the artist. A detailed reference section on Pijuan closes the book.
