Public Visual Arts Facilities System of Catalonia (SPEAV)

The Public Visual Arts Facilities System of Catalonia is the system of the various organisations that own the visual arts facilities in which the public administration of the Generalitat Government of Catalonia participates and of the local bodies that promote and manage visual arts programmes at privately and publicly owned facilities. This system aims to maintain territorial balance, especially concerning contemporary artistic practices, and strives to uphold the highest artistic, technical and professional quality.

The new Public Visual Arts Facilities System of Catalonia (SPEAV)aims to structure a stable framework of collaboration between visual arts facilities that leads to cooperative and enriching action. As such, the Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA) has been placed at the head to structure regional cooperation between the system’s visual arts facilities in different categories.
In addition to the MACBA, SPEAV members include regional visual arts centres such as the ACVic Centre d’Arts Contemporànies, the Bòlit Centre d’Art Contemporani de Girona, the Centre d’Art la Panera de Lleida, the Centro de Arte Tecla Sala de l’Hospitalet de Llobregat, the Fabra i Coats Centre d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona, the Mataró Art Contemporani, the Mèdol Centre d’Arts Contemporànies de Tarragona and Lo Pati Centre d’Art Terres de l’Ebre d’Amposta, as well as local art centres and spaces devoted to spreading contemporary art in local and/or supralocal contexts.
Within this framework, the MACBA acts as a point of reference and is working on becoming a space for convergence and support for the rest of the visual arts facilities in Catalonia in various fields, such as research, creation and production, dissemination and visitor outreach, asset registration and documentation and international promotion.

“A Museum Outside the Museum” curated by Martí Manen
Exhibition project from June to November 2026
“A Museum Outside the Museum” curated by Martí Manen
A Museum Outside the Museum, curated by Martí Manen, proposes taking works from the MACBA Collection and Archive out of the museum, aiming to present them in spaces of social interaction in order to generate different relationships of proximity. A dentist’s waiting room, a baker’s oven, a veterinary clinic, the changing rooms of a football pitch, a rehearsal room or a mayor’s office are possible locations for this project, which is being carried out by MACBA and the SPEAV network (Public System of Visual Arts Equipment in Catalonia). 25 Centres of art will participate.

The choice of works and the material presented will be based on the locations selected from among the art centres and facilities in Catalonia, in dialogue with MACBA, offering close proximity to the art and special contexts for the works themselves.
