La gran mentira de la muerte (The big lie of death)

Filmmaker and visual artist Wu Tsang revisits the myth of Carmen in La gran mentira de la muerte (The big lie of death).
Opening of La gran mentira de la muerte (The big lie of death), a film and sound installation designed as a site-specific piece for MACBA’s Capella and coproduced by TBA21 Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary, Hartwig Art Foundation and National Gallery of Victoria.
The film explores the poetic themes in Carmen, Georges Bizet’s opera, and the way its myth interweaves with flamenco and bullfighting as areas of performance. It features the performers Rocío Molina with José ‘El Oruco’, Yinka Esi Graves and Tosh Basco, and the bullfighter Vanessa Montoya.
On Thursday 25 July, as part of Barcelona’s GREC Festival 2024, the flamenco dancer Yinka Esi Graves will respond to the new installation through a live improvised flamenco performance, accompanied on the drums by Remi Graves.
