From 6th to 9th February 2018

PIGS Self-Management seeks to share the strategies, methodologies and research topics of four collectives from southern Europe working on the limits of cultural production and the activism of sexual dissidence. A practical and collective project will be developed over four workshops attended by PEI students and anyone interested.

The first referential framework will be the geopolitical context, since the four collectives taking part in the project live and work in the countries pejoratively known in English as PIGS: Portugal, Italy, Greece and Spain. These countries are deemed to be politically and economically weak and unstable, within the European context, thus meriting the injurious epithet.

The second referential framework refers to the fact that the working practices of these collectives fall within the field of cultural production and are marked in different ways by sexual dissidence, feminism, queer practices, and activist and political work. In this sense, by using the insulting PIGS, they seek to invert the meaning of the term through research on work models, methodologies and self-managed production as a form of autonomy and critical articulation.
