In her most recent work, Ariadna Guiteras explores the Renaissance notion of the porous body, a medical theory that held that the skin was an easily perforated threshold that was hard to protect. Bringing this into the present, Guiteras focuses on bodies as an open, vulnerable material that is always related to the other, whether the immediate environment, the flows of capital, solar energy or love. With this conceptual framework, Guiteras presents her sweating ceramics. Tota aquesta tragèdia de la ideologia i de l'amor starts off from a work with The Lovers trump from the tarot, which is related to choice, or making decisions when faced with a dilemma related to desire. These porous clay amphoras, inspired in traditional jugs, contain and sweat water and essential oils. They were made on a potter’s wheel in collaboration with Marc Vidal, expressing the idea of bodies that are organically bound to their surroundings.
