Using old geography maps and astronomy books, Regina Giménez displaces their literalness and rearranges their meaning. In her paintings on canvas and textile collages, she frees signs of their symbolic capacity, turning them intoa free exploration of geometry and colour. Rather than mountains, rivers and constellations, the composition becomes a formal dialogue between minimal elements. In this way, her Geo-gràfics series takes textiles as a support, occupying the space in the manner of old standards or banners, with basic shapes and essential colours as the protagonists, while the whole and the fragment, chromatics and the absence of colour, seriality and individuality take on the role of subject. Giménez uses large surfaces and a strictly aerial verticality to intervene and transform the space. Her work constitutes a contemporary review of the tradition of pictorial abstraction in the twentieth century through the medium of textiles.
