A fan set on the floor is pointed towards a hanging plummet, placed so far away that the blowing air does not alter it. Meanwhile, the plummet, held in tension by the pressure of gravity, marks out a vertical line. The angle created by the air flow of the ventilator cannot be seen but is perceived. In this way, geometry becomes a sensorial phenomenon. In this installation Àngels Ribé does what in other works she accomplished with the gaze, making a geometric line tangible in space. In the experimental process of developing this project, the artist realised that the drive to make an invisible reality visible was a way of condensing her relationship with sculpture. In this way, the air from a fan that does not move a plummet became “the best way to say it.” This piece was presented at the Clocktower Gallery in the context of the group exhibition Ideas at the Idea Warehouse, organised by New York’s Institute for Art and Urban Resources in 1975.
