For this installation, Àngels Ribé picks up on a short phrase from the Book of Marvels, by Ramon Llull: “E la forma és acció, i el contingut passió” [And the form is action, the content passion]. For this artist, form is the vehicle for understanding a work and leads (although never univocally) to content. When E la forma was presented in the b5-125 art space of the Autonomous University of Barcelona in 1979, it was shown in a darkened gallery. As the artist herself has explained: “There was a single window covered over by a transparent photograph that showed an image of me running with an open book in my hands, the pages blank. The gallery pointed south and the sun entered the space through the photo.... Later, the window was substituted by a light box.” In the first version of this exhibition, the music of The Rolling Stones, played on the violin by Pere Josep Puértolas, resonated in the space.
