Joan Rabascall
Sense títol
Untitled
1968
“Around the years 1963–1964 I began to make assemblages, using newspapers and magazines, that is, bits of paper from dailies stuck on canvas and retouched using acrylic paint. The next phase involved doing photomontages, which were then enlarged on canvas, as well as metallic photographic plates, as I wanted to give the image a different look, as well as have a greater impact on the viewer.” The long frieze of media images making up this work belongs to the second period Joan Rabascall is speaking of, when he began to do collage on canvas. A powerful observer of the social milieu, Rabascall works by combining images with great efficacy. The work features permutations, overlays, shifts in scale and compositions of images from the media, put into service in an impeccable critique of capitalism, consumerism and the way of life they impose.
