Alicia Fingerhut
Y el otro sueño
And the Other Dream
1980
Alicia Fingerhut’s incursion into conceptual art was short-lived. Despite having been an active member of the Grup de Treball collective until it was disbanded, in 1975 she returned to her painting practice. In those years, Fingerhut did a series of actions focused on her own body and graphic work using material from the mass media, at a time when photocopies were commonly used in conceptual art. Y el otro sueño, presented in the exhibition Ignited (Sala Vinçon, Barcelona, 1981), is part of this set of work featuring press images, created as a dialogue between the private, intimate registry of the dream world and the public image we project of ourselves. Here, for Fingerhut, this dialogue also clearly involved more formal inquiry.
