In November 1985, the Dalí Museum in Figueres held an encounter on art and science organised by Jorge Wagensberg, who in the opening session asked a question that had a major impact on Francesc Abad: “Is chance the product of ignorance or an intrinsic right of nature?” This would incite Abad to begin a reflection on the very reality of art itself, which in Abad’s view is linked to atavistic fear, leading us on a search for the how and why. What comes first in the creative act: the gesture, the idea or the gaze? Most importantly, how do these factors relate to each other? El fet artístic unfolds as a composition of related objects, images and words around this interrogation, which rather than being a point of arrival has greater interest as a path and discursive process.
