Trilogia postfordista II. Blue-collar Suite No. 2: Lear's Song

In the 1950s, the anthropologist and biologist Gregory Bateson articulated the concept of the double bind, a situation of conflict between two parties that cannot be resolved. From this concept, Octavi Comeron created his Trilogia postfordista, a reflection on the forms of work in advanced capitalism. Trilogia postfordista II. Blue-collar Suite No. 2: Lear's Song contains several layers of meaning. Here, Comeron’s starting point was the relocation of the headquarters of the American multinational Lear Corporation located in Cervera, in La Segarra (Lleida), that took place in 2002 to extensive media coverage. The company, which manufactured components for automobiles, moved the factory to Poland, closing the Catalan plant with the loss of 1,280 jobs. Comeron incorporates the blue of the workers’ overalls. Alluding to the identification between life time and productive time, an electronic counter that is activated with each new presentation of the installation adds seconds both night and day.
