Joan Rabascall
Mai 68
May 68
1968
Joan Rabascall experienced the riots by workers and students on the streets of Paris in May ’68. He actively participated, creating works that incorporate photographs of the revolt and a series of posters made in the public workshops. In this composition, the artist superimposes illustrations of consumer objects over photographs of young people in the streets with leaflets, cyclostyled pamphlets with revolutionary messages that were distributed on the street. Besides attacking the bourgeois system, the May revolt also critiqued the art world, in particular the concept of authorship and the commodification of the artwork.
