Büsi (Kitty)
Büsi (Kitty)
2001
A collaboration between Peter Fischli and David Weiss, Hunde (Dogs) and Büsi (Kitty) draw our attention to moments in time that are often overlooked. In Hunde (Dogs), three dogs whimper and bark behind a fence trying to get out or reach something on the other side, the side of the viewer. In Büsi (Kitty), a cat silently drinks from a bowl of milk. The duration of these videos (around thirty minutes in the case of the dogs, and over six minutes in the case of the cat) forces us to find meaning in apparently trivial situations and to establish a new relationship with ordinary time. Büsi (Kitty) was projected on the giant screen of one of New York’s Times Square’s electronic billboards in 2001, and again in 2016. Both these videos focus on the aesthetics of the everyday in an attempt to discover the beauty that lies hidden in our immediate environment.
