Martin Kippenberger
Alba. Serie: "Retratos"
Alba. Series: "Portraits"
1988
In 1988, the versatile provocateur Martin Kippenberger moved to Madrid and Seville, where he produced a series of autobiographical works around Picasso, one of his creative references. Portrait and self-portrait are two genres widely used by Kippenberger. Many of these start with a drawing, in the manner of a sketch, to which he applies several elements. For the series of portraits made during his stay in Spain, he focused on various figures from the local aristocracy. With the sharp humour that runs throughout his work, Kippenberger fixes his critical gaze on the construction of the image and the key role that it plays in media devices like television.
