True to a body of work that gives great prominence to materials and their precariousness, autobiographical references are also common in the work of Antoni Llena. While in other works he alludes to personal moments and their creative references, this three-dimensional piece is constructed as an explicit reference and a small tribute to his mother. Et in Arcadia Ego I was made in 1995 using the cotton blanket on which the artist's mother died. Soon after her death, Llena carefully folded and sealed it with duct tape, and then placed a piece of flesh-coloured rubber in the shape of a vagina.
