Eva Lootz
Sense títol
Untitled
1988
Made with lead, tin and steel wool, this work pertains to the series Lengua [Tongue], which is comprised of various tongues and done in the 1980s. Eva Lootz experiments with various sizes and different materials: sealing wax, felt, wax and tin, amongst others. Her interest in the physical quality of materials and their symbolic capacity leads her to the viscosity of the tongue muscle, whose solid yet malleable consistency makes it possible for us to chew and speak. The sensorial universe of Lootz recalls artists like Rebecca Horn and Louise Bourgeois. Along with her interest in the elements, Eva Lootz also plays with figurative meaning, analogy, error, paradox and conceptual notions. In this way, on certain occasions she has used her physical tongues to speak of the disappearance of the founding languages of South America.
