Hac Vinent
Hard Persistence
2020
Hard Persistence presents a fictional essay of an autobiographical nature, related to crip and queer theories. The narrative is based on Hac Vinent’s experiences with auditory protheses, music and sound, as a hearing-impaired individual. The videos with subtitles refer to the complexity of hearing for a hyper-technologized deaf subject. Vinent reflects on the idea that when people receive a prothesis, they are no longer identified as biological organisms, becoming something that approximates them to the realm of science fiction: a cyber-organism or cyborg. In this way, the artist experiments with the concept of what is and is not human, and the political and material consequences of this conception. Vinent bases its work on the premise that, in an ableist context like our own, any body that is designated as disabled is not understood as a whole human body.
