Maqueta #1, 2014

Model #1, 2014
Object, 17 x 240 x 150 cm

Despite its title, Patricia Dauder’s Maqueta #1 bears no relation to anything that exists on a real scale. She has been working for years on projects resembling graphically-represented diagrams. The fact of shifting her sketched schemes into volume has drawn attention to the physical concretion of these structures, the idea of a whole set and its nature and meaning.

Dauder approaches these works as an exercise in distribution through space and horizontal expansion of a series of cavities and forms. The idea of the receptacle, emptiness and fullness, positive and negative, are some of the concepts with which Dauder works by means of her modular set. Although it might be associated with an archaeological site or ruins, the work does not refer to any particular urban planning or architecture. Concerned with exploring the notions of fragmentation and ambivalence, Patricia Dauder constructs this set of modules in different shapes (rectangular, oval, and square) as the physical manifestation of mental geometry.
