Continuing the conversation with Walter Mignolo, we look at how the decolonial option can help us understand the complex global developments that we are in the midst of. Mignolo invites us to reflect on recent phenomena that we do not have a say in, on their consequences and on the visibility of their limits. Understanding the world is inseparable from understanding ourselves in the global process that affects our ways of being, feeling and thinking. The conversation will be moderated by Luis Alfonso Herrera Robles and Francisco Carballo.

Walter Mignolo (Argentina) is a semiotician and researcher at Duke University, where he is William H. Wannamaker Professor of Literature and Director of the Center for Global Studies and the Humanities. His major contributions include categories of analysis such as ‘colonial difference’, ‘border thinking’, ‘the coloniality of being’ and the idea of the ‘Western hemisphere/North Atlantic’. He is Director of the Franklin Center for International and Interdisciplinary Studies at Duke University and of the Duke in the Andes programme.

Luis Alfonso Herrera Robles is a lecturer and researcher at the Autonomous University of Ciudad Juárez, where he teaches in the Department of Social Sciences. He holds a PhD in Political Science from the UAB.

Francisco Carballo teaches Latin American culture and politics at Goldsmiths, University of London, where he is Associate Director of the Centre for Postcolonial Studies.
