Vasco Araújo (Lisbon, 1975) is one of the most acclaimed artists of the Portuguese contemporary art scene. His work has consistently explored the nature of established codes of communication – including those that are conveyed through gestures and movement – and the relationship between performativity sexuality and identity. Quite often, he finds his resources in classical mythology, opera, Baroque dance, courtly etiquette and social norms. During this encounter Vasco Araújo will show fragments of some of his most significant pieces, talking about his working process in conversation with the audience. He will be accompanied by the architect Ventura Valcarce.

This event has been organised by MACBA in collaboration with the Consulado General de Portugal en Barcelona in the context of the IX Mostra Portuguesa en España. The event will be followed by a porto d'honra, an aperitif of port and pasteis de nata (Portuguese custard tarts) courtesy of the Consulado General de Portugal en Barcelona.
