Biography

Renan Araujo i Julia Coelho

Renan Araujo (Santa Rita do Passa Quatro, São Paulo, Brazil) is a writer, curator and artist; Julia Coelho (Salvador de Bahia, Brazil) is a writer, historian and curator. Together they constitute a curating duo that implements its practice through different procedures: exhibitions, routes, audio guides, texts, conferences and public programmes.

In the context of Artists in Residence they are presenting their project Öyvind Fahlström Títeres Show (ÖFTS), a study that will give form to a puppet show based on the biography of Meatball Curtain (for R. Crumb), the 1969 installation by artist Öyvind Fahlström. The life of this “object” will be narrated starting from its production together with the Heath and Company factory, continuing with its entry into MACBA in 2006, and continuing through its current situation. Appropriating some of Fahlström’s creative strategies, such as manipulation and theatricality, Araujo and Coelho will associate the practice of archival research with learning from the puppeteer’s know-how. At the same time, they will reactivate the museum’s collection, inviting us to reflect on body perception, reality and conspiratorial theories of manipulation.
