In 1996, MACBA invited fourteen artists to create a series of installations inside and outside the Museum in order to offer a critical approach to the relationship between artworks and the museum or gallery. The idea was to set up a dialogue between the artist and the museum on the use and meaning of the space: how artworks, given their illuminating nature, also have the capacity to make architectural space intelligible, to give meaning to the museum and the place where each of the works takes shape. The catalogue contains the projects along with ample information relating to the artists.

I’d really like to think that the artist could be just another kind of material in the picture, working in collaboration with all the other materials.
