Leire Vergara has a PhD in Visual Cultures from Goldsmiths College, University of London, and is an independent curator and member of Bulegoa z/b, Bilbao. She has curated numerous cycles and exhibitions, including: In qualche luogo lontano: Roma (In Some Faraway Place: Rome) Spanish Academy, Rome (2021); Les imatges recurrents. Sobre les condicions materials del seu retorn (Recurring images. On the material conditions of their return), with Pablo Martínez, MACBA, Barcelona (2017); La pantalla negra o blanca: el poder de ver imágenes juntos (The black or white screen: the power of seeing images together), XXIII Jornadas de la Imagen CA2M, Madrid (2016); Dispositivos del tocar. Imaginación curatorial en los tiempos de las fronteras expandidas (Touch devices. Curatorial imagination at a time of expanded borders), Trankat, Tetouan (2015). She worked as a curator in the Sala Rekalde, 2005–09, and was co-director, with Peio Aguirre, of DAE – Donostiako Arte Ekinbideak, 2002–05, a project associated with Arteleku. She is currently teaching Curating Positions at the Dutch Art Institute, Arnhem.
