Suzanne Treister
Artist and painter. Since the beginning of her career she has become a pioneer of artistic creation in the digital field. Her works are concerned with new technologies, the creation of new worlds and organisations that collaborate internationally. Using a range of audiovisual materials, the internet, photography, drawings and watercolours, Treister has developed a body of work that interacts with unusual narratives and unconventional research organisations and tries to make visible the relationships between power structures, identity and knowledge.
Her works, exhibited in institutions like the Centre Pompidou or the Science Museum in London, include fantastical reinterpretations of specific taxonomies and histories looking at the existence of hidden or invisible forces in the world, whether corporate, military or paranormal. Her current work focuses on the relationship between technology, society, alternative belief systems and the future prospects of humankind. Treister also won the prestigious Collide International in 2018, the CERN prize for art and science, and publishes some of her work in the form of monographs, particular highlights including: NATO The Military Codification System for the Ordering of Everything in the World (Blackdog, 2010) and No Other Symptoms – Time Travelling with Rosalind Brodsky (Blackdog, 1999).
