Luz Pichel, born in Alén (Pontevedra) in 1947, Luz Pichel is a poet. She is a professor of Language and Literature and co-director, with Guadalupe Grande, of the Centre for Poetry Studies at the Universidad Popular José Hierro, San Sebastián de los Reyes, 2002–09. Since 2012, she has been part of the research group Seminario Euraca, based in Madrid. Her writing evolves from all the places where she has lived: Alén (Pontevedra), Ilford (London), Maidenhead (England), and Madrid, as well as those she is interested in. The tension between major and minor languages, the liberating potential of a non-stabilised or non-folkloric use of dialects, the class conflict that the Castrapo dialect exposes, memory and childhood, as well as the inventive cracks left open by both, are some of the areas explored by her poetry.
