He trained at the University of Barcelona and at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam. His creations in sculpture, sound and the moving image explore issues related to contemporary subjectivity and the complex relationship with technology. His works often depict the thresholds of perception and attention, and the scale of the human body. Grilo often works with lineages or families of work that evolve over the years, such as his series of pieces made from denim.

He has exhibited at institutions which include La Casa Encendida in Madrid (2010), Espai Zero1 in Olot (2010), Museo de Arte Contemporánea de Vigo (2011), Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo de Móstoles in Madrid (2014), Kunstverein Hildesheim in Germany (2014 ), Espai 13 at Fundació Joan Miró in Barcelona (2015) and CentroCentro in Madrid (2016 and 2019). His work can be found in collections such as those of the Centre d’Art la Panera in Lleida, Centro Galego de Arte Contemporánea de Santiago de Compostela, Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo de Móstoles in Madrid, the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam and MACBA in Barcelona.
