Pasaporteman is one of the monikers of Senegalese DJ Baba Sy (Thiès, 1986). It stems from his concern for music lost in seas and oceans: the Atlantic, throughout centuries of colonisation, and the Mediterranean in the present. Pasaporteman weaves networks of solidarity between bodies and souls that were lost without record. Delving into the depths of those watery graves, Pasaporteman's aggressive soundscapes are a cross-border vindication of Black lives punctuated by powerful bass sounds from the African continent and its diasporas.
